[Area of Research]
We study biological phenomena in molecular or cellular levels using theoretical methods including mathematics, physics or computational science. By the theoretical methods we derive essential mechanisms for the emergence of biological functions from complex systems. The outline of our research activities are shown in our web site.

One Research Scientist

[Job Description]
Studying biological phenomena in molecular, cellular or developmental biology using theoretical methods including mathematics, physics or computational science.
Successful applicants will carry out original researches relating to one of the following research topics:
1. Mathematical or computational study for pattern formations in cellular or developmental phenomena
2. Understanding cellular functions from mathematical modeling
3. Understanding the dynamics of regulatory networks

[Qualifications]
Applicants must have a Ph.D. with strong background in either theoretical science (mathematics, physics or computational science), or experimental biology (molecular, cell or developmental biology). The applicant is expected to show clear objectives for studying theoretical biology.
At least one year of overseas research experience desirable.

[Location]
RIKEN Advanced Science Institute, 2-1 Hirosawa, Wako-shi, Saitama, Japan

[Conditions]
A tenured fulltime position until RIKEN’s retirement age of 60. However, the successful applicant may be offered instead a five-year fixed-term employment contract depending on the selection results. In this case, the employee can move to a tenured position after undergoing a successful review to be held at the end of the first 3 years of employment. Annual salary and other conditions of the fixed-term contract position are the same as for the tenured position.

Salary shall be determined on an annual basis subject to the applicant''s experience and performance. Social health insurance, commuting and housing allowances might be provided. Days off are weekends, public holidays, New Year''s holidays (Dec 29 - Jan 3) and RIKEN Foundation Day. These and other provisions are in accordance with RIKEN regulations. Recipients of JASSO (Japan Student Services Organization) category 1 scholarship loans may be eligible to have loan repayments waived (those awarded through FY2003). The researcher in this position will be eligible to apply for research grants offered by MEXT or JSPS.

基幹研究所・望月理論生物学研究室（主任研究員：望月敦史）

【研究室の概要】
当研究室は、分子・細胞・発生生物学における様々な生命現象に対し、数理科学・物理学・計算科学などの理論的手法を用いて解明に取り組んでいる。

研究員（定年制）　1名

【応募資格】
数理科学、物理学、計算科学などの理論科学分野において、研究実績のある博士号取得（見込）者で、かつ生命現象に取り組もうと考える者。
もしくは分子生物学、細胞生物学、発生生物学などの分野において、研究実績のある博士号取得（見込）者で、かつ理論的研究に取り組もうと考える者。
応募者のこれまでの研究分野よりは、むしろ「生命現象を理論的に解明すること」に対する意識の高さを重視する。自身のアイデアで研究を立案し、積極的に進めていける方の応募を期待する。
１年以上の海外研究歴を有することが望ましい。

事業所及び住所：基幹研究所　〒351-0198 埼玉県和光市広沢２番１号

【待　遇】
定年制職員（60歳定年）。但し、採用時に審査結果によっては5年間の任期制職員として採用され、3年終了後に定年制移行審査を受ける事となる。任期制職員として雇用される場合の年収・勤務条件は定年制職員に準ずる。
年棒制（規程に基づき諸手当支給）社会保険の適用あり。休日は、土日、祝日、年末年始（12/29-1/3）、当研究所創立記念日。その他、研究所規程による。
日本学生支援機構奨学金（平成15年度までに大学院第一種奨学生に採用されている場合）の返還特別免除の対象、科学研究費補助金の申請資格有り。
