2022 February 04 JOBS

Open positions:
Team Leader: 1 position

Qualifications:
1. Applicants must have a Ph.D. or have equivalent research experience.
2. Applicants must have substantial knowledge, experience and ability to manage and carry out the research projects described under [Research Field].

Work location:
RIKEN Center for Biosystems Dynamics Research (Kobe Campus-East-West)
2-2-3 Minatojima-minamimachi, Chuo-ku, Kobe, Hyogo, 650-0047, Japan

Research field:
RIKEN Center for Biosystems Dynamics Research views the life of an individual, from birth to death, as a dynamic process of development, maintenance, and failure of complex systems of molecules, cells and organs.
We aim to understand the general principles of organismal temporal dynamics throughout the lifespan from birth to death, including aging, under an umbrella field we refer to as “Life Cycle Sciences”. Our interdisciplinary approaches include imaging, multi-omics, theory, molecular biology, stem cell biology, organoids, and diverse animal models.
Genome analysis technologies have seen tremendous advancements in recent years and have become powerful and indispensable tools in all areas of life science research to understand biological phenomena through the computational analyses of the massive amounts of sequencing data—from genome sequences and epigenomes to 3D genome architecture and transcripts—obtained from these technologies. To achieve our Center’s aim of revealing the mechanisms regulating the dynamic processes of the life cycle across hierarchical scales, there is a need for the development, introduction and implementation of new genome analysis technologies, such as integrating microdevices and imaging technologies to perform genome analysis at the single-cell level or obtaining spatial information of individual cells within tissues in situ.
To ensure the timely and wide-ranging uses of leading technologies amid the global competition for technological developments, the BDR is seeking a principal investigator (Team Leader) with a broad perspective of the genome analysis field who lead the Life Cycle Sciences through the development and introduction of platform technologies for genome analysis as well as the provision of technical support. The appointed candidate will be expected to carry out their independent research in one or more of the fields of life cycle science research, bioinformatics research and technology development, and to provide technical support for cutting-edge genome analysis that contributes to the Life Cycle Sciences to a wide range of researchers within and outside the BDR.
BDR provides early-career Team Leaders with an excellent environment for their independent research, including internationally competitive start-up packages and annual research funds as well as mentoring by experienced senior PIs. The Team Leader will have access to cutting-edge facilities including for various animal models, mouse genome engineering, multi-scale imaging and omics, and structural biology, and have opportunities for active collaborations with medical institutions, industry, and affiliated graduate schools. For more information, please visit the BDR website .
We welcome applications from candidates of any gender or nationality, and encourage applications from those who will broaden RIKEN's diversity. The working language for all discussions open to BDR members is English.

Deadline:
Applications must arrive no later than noon, April 4, 2022 (Japan Standard Time)

Start of employment:
After January 2023 (negotiable)
