Decision on recipients of "Support for pre-registration fee for student members presenting at IUPAB2024"

We are pleased to announce the application results and the decision on recipients of "Support for pre-registration fee for student members presenting at the 21st International Union of Biophysics and Biochemistry and the 62nd Joint Annual Meeting of the Biophysical Society of Japan (IUPAB2024)". The deadline of the application was 15 February 2024.
The total number of applicants was 165. As the number exceeded our expectation of 100, the Steering Committee of the Society carefully selected the applicants. We noted that there were 82 research supervisors who sponsored the applications, of which 34 supervisors sponsored two or more students (18 supervisors sponsored three or more), and decided to select a maximum of two students per supervisor, in accordance with the guideline "Selection will be made to enable presentations from as many laboratories as possible". In total, we decided to support 117 students.
In the case for labs with more than three applied students, priority was given to students in the lower year, since doctor course students might have their own support from JSPS. If selections from students in the same year were necessary, the selections were made random.
We hope that those who were selected and those who were not selected understand that this support is not an "award" and is not related to the quality of the research at all. The supervisors are also asked to explain the situations to the non-selected students and to support them.
We apologize for the several shortcomings in the application process of this support. We look forward to seeing you all at IUPAB2024.
