【Significance】
A review for mechanisms of antigen discrimination by T cells

A T cell can discriminate even single amino acid substitution of a target antigen. We review recent experimental and theoretical advancement on the mechanism of the accurate discrimination. We specifically focus on the four important properties of the T cell discrimination, i.e., specificity, sensitivity, speed and concentration compensation by considering their tradeoff and balance. We also discuss the future directions towards understanding of the mechanisms from the viewpoint of cellular information processing.
