An Assistant Professor position, Institute for Protein Research (IPR), Osaka University

Outline
The Laboratory for CryoEM Structural Biology in the IPR is engaged in the structural analysis of several biological samples using cryo-electron microscopy, as well as the development of related techniques. Our research focuses on elucidating the mechanisms of various biological samples, including the rotation and energy conversion mechanism of molecular motors and the molecular recognition mechanism of odor receptors. We are seeking an enthusiastic and capable Assistant Professor who can actively contribute to one of the following areas: 1) research on structure-activity correlations of the aforementioned samples, 2) development of high-resolution structural analysis techniques for biological samples using single-particle analysis, 3) development of improvement methods for the resolution of cryo-electron microscopy images using AI, and 4) pioneering structural analysis methods for functional states of biological samples within cells.

Qualifications [Essential]
Applicants must have:
(1) A doctoral degree in the above field/s
(2) Excellent research achievements in the related field/s
(3) Business level or above Japanese language proficiency
[Preferred]
One of the following conditions is preferred.
∙ Applicant with experience in cryo-EM structural analysis
∙ Applicant with familiarity in image analysis

Starting Date October 1, 2023(or as soon as possible thereafter)

Term of Employment 5 years from the starting date
*Following completion of the term, the contract may be extended only once for 5 years subject to evaluation.
(If the applicant had already been contracted in Osaka University, the extension limit is 10 years from the first starting date).

Probationary Period 6 months
