”A new antigenic marker specifically labels a subpopulation of the class II Kenyon cells in the brain of the European honeybee Apis mellifera

【Significance】
A new antigenic marker for the honeybee mushroom bodies

The mushroom bodies, higher-order integration center of the insect brain, play an important role in learning and memory of honeybees. In this study, we report that a monoclonal antibody can be a new antigenic marker that labels neuronal projections from a specific subpopulation of the mushroom bodies. This antibody can label neuronal projections in the developing pupal brains as well as in the adult brains. Therefore, this antibody allows us to investigate morphological development of the honeybee mushroom bodies during metamorphosis.
